Vermeer introduces BC170 brush chipper for sub-750-kg chipping performance in Europe

Vermeer introduces BC170 brush chipper for sub-750-kg chipping performance in Europe
The BC170 brush chipper weighs under 750 kg for permit-free transport across Europe. With a standard turntable and 170 mm infeed capacity, this compact machine delivers professional-grade performance for tree care and landscape contractors.

The new Vermeer BC170 brush chipper gives tree care and landscape professionals maximum versatility without the burden of special towing permits. Weighing under 750 kg (1,653 lb), the BC170 can be transported behind standard vehicles in most European countries, opening new possibilities for contractors seeking efficient operations across multiple jobsites.

"Tree care and landscape contractors told us they wanted a chipper they could tow with a standard vehicle and take anywhere without permit hassles," said Maurits de Feijter, product manager at Vermeer EMEA. "The BC170 delivers exactly that. It gives crews the freedom to move between jobs quickly while still handling the material volumes they need to stay productive."

The BC170 features a 200 mm x 170 mm (8 in x 7 in) letterbox-style infeed opening, one of the largest in its class. This generous infeed capacity allows crews to process branches and limbs efficiently, reducing the need to pre-cut material before feeding. The machine's offset double infeed rollers provide strong pulling power to help consistently draw material through.

A standard 5-position turntable sets the BC170 apart in this weight class. The turntable allows operators to rotate the infeed to the optimal angle for each job, providing exceptional maneuverability when working along roadsides or in tight residential and urban spaces.

When crews are working in residential neighborhoods, noise matters. The BC170's EcoIdle™ system automatically reduces engine speed after periods of inactivity, reducing fuel consumption and keeping noise levels lower between loads. When it's time to chip, the 30 kW (40 hp) Briggs & Stratton Vanguard petrol engine delivers the power to keep material moving.

A heavy-duty steel bonnet protects key components job after job, and the hydraulic cooler keeps the system running consistently across varying temperatures and conditions.

The BC170 is designed for easy maintenance. Quick knife changes get crews back to work, and the direct-drive system eliminates clutches and simplifies belt tensioning. The SmartFeed system monitors engine speed and automatically stops or reverses the rollers when needed.

An on-highway chassis with surge brake makes the BC170 road-ready, and a single centralized lifting eye simplifies transport handling. Custom RAL color options are also available to let contractors match their fleet branding.

The BC170 comes standard with a 3-year warranty, extendable up to five years. To learn more about the BC170 brush chipper, contact your local Vermeer dealer.
